On the evening of October 11, 1973, two men fishing along the Pascagoula River in Mississippi reported a strange buzzing sound and a bright light before a craft descended over the riverbank. Both men described being taken aboard by strange, grey-skinned humanoid figures, examined by a floating mechanical device, and released a short time later, badly shaken and struggling to explain what had happened.

They immediately reported the encounter to local police, and in a now-famous moment, investigators secretly left the two men alone in an interrogation room with a hidden recorder running, expecting to catch inconsistencies in a hoax. Instead, the tape captured two frightened, exhausted men repeating the same account to each other in private, with no indication either was performing for an audience. Neither man ever significantly altered his story for the rest of his life, and the Pascagoula case remains one of the most closely examined and widely discussed alleged abduction accounts in UFO history.
