On the night of December 29, 1980, Betty Cash, Vickie Landrum, and Vickie's young grandson were driving a rural road near Huffman, Texas, when a diamond-shaped craft appeared low over the road ahead of them, venting intense flame downward and forcing the car to stop. All three later reported the object was surrounded by a large formation of military helicopters, and described intense heat radiating from the craft as they watched it depart.

What makes this case unusually well-documented is what happened afterward. Within hours, all three witnesses began experiencing symptoms consistent with radiation exposure, burns, nausea, hair loss, and Betty Cash in particular required extended hospital treatment. The witnesses later pursued a lawsuit against the U.S. government, seeking to determine whether the craft belonged to a classified military program; the case was ultimately dismissed after the government stated it had no record of any such aircraft in the area that night. No official explanation has ever accounted for both the craft and the injuries together.
