By 1367, Edward, the Black Prince, was at the height of his military reputation. Drawn into Castile's civil war, he led an Anglo-Gascon army across the Pyrenees in support of the deposed King Pedro "the Cruel" against his half-brother, Henry of Trastámara. The campaign hinged on crossing the Ebro river into hostile territory — a bold, exposed maneuver that put the prince's army within reach of the enemy. On 3 April 1367, near the town of Nájera, that gamble paid off: the Black Prince won one of the largest and most decisive battles of the age, restoring Pedro to the Castilian throne and adding a Spanish crown to his list of conquests.

This design reimagines that river crossing as a commemorative roundel — a circular battle seal in gold and black, capturing the prince mid-ford, sword raised, army surging behind him beneath a sky on fire.
