Metsubushi Ninja Blinding Powder T-Shirt | Japanese Weapon Tee
Not every ninja weapon was about cutting or striking — some were built purely to buy an escape or an opening. Metsubushi were small shells or pouches filled with fine powder, sometimes ash, sand, or crushed pepper, cracked open directly into an opponent's face at close range. The effect was immediate: a moment of pain and total disorientation, more than enough time for a ninja to flee, strike, or vanish entirely.
What makes metsubushi interesting historically is how unglamorous it is compared to swords or throwing blades — it's a tool built entirely around denying an opponent their senses rather than out-fighting them directly. Some sources describe eggshells hollowed out and refilled with irritant powder specifically for this purpose, disposable and easy to carry in numbers, meant to be used once and discarded.
This design captures the exact instant of use — powder bursting across a samurai's face as a hooded figure crushes the shell in hand, castle rooftops and moonlight behind them. Same dense engraved woodcut style as the rest of the ninja weapons pieces, with the powder rendered in warm gold against the black-and-white linework for maximum impact.
