The kusari-fundo is deceptively simple: a length of chain with a weight fixed to each end, no blade, no point, nothing that looks especially dangerous at rest. In motion, it becomes something else entirely — capable of striking, entangling, disarming, or choking an opponent from a distance a sword couldn't reach, all while folding down small enough to hide inside a sleeve or sash.

Unlike a lot of ninja-specific equipment, the kusari-fundo wasn't exclusive to shinobi. Samurai used their own versions too, sometimes carried as a concealed backup weapon when armed combat with a blade wasn't an option, or when the goal was to disable rather than kill. Its real strength was unpredictability — a fighter used to reading sword or spear range had no easy way to judge the reach of a chain that could snap taut or coil in an instant.

This design captures the weapon mid-swing, chain arcing fully across the frame, a hooded figure braced low against a castle backdrop under a stormy sky. Same dense engraved woodcut style as the rest of the ninja weapons pieces, rendered here in cooler, more metallic monochrome tones to match the weapon's steel.
