Ame-onna — the Rain Woman — is one of Japan's older yōkai, tied to the folk belief that certain spirits arrive with the weather itself, carried in on storms and mist.

Some tales paint her as a lonely, mournful figure, forever drenched and forever wandering. Others are darker still — versions where children are warned never to answer her when she calls, and never to take what she offers. In this design, she reaches out through a curtain of rain with an open palm, dark eyes fixed just past the viewer, half in shadow beneath a blood-red sun. A pagoda and an arched bridge sit in the mist behind her — quiet, waterlogged, and empty.
