Tezcatlipoca — "Smoking Mirror" — was one of the most powerful and unpredictable deities in the Aztec pantheon: god of the night sky, sorcery, fate, and conflict, and the great rival of Quetzalcoatl in Aztec cosmology. His name and his power were bound up with obsidian, the volcanic black glass polished into mirrors used by priests and rulers for scrying and divination — a way of glimpsing hidden truths, distant events, or the will of the gods. To look into an obsidian mirror was, in Aztec belief, to risk looking directly into Tezcatlipoca's own gaze, since he was said to see everything and judge accordingly, rewarding and punishing rulers and commoners alike.

This design channels that mystique: a polished black obsidian disc catching the light, set within an ornate gold and turquoise mosaic frame, crowned by a carved deity face and anchored below by a watchful eye — a symbol of the mirror's power to perceive what is otherwise hidden.
