On the night of August 21, 1955, an extended family in rural Hopkinsville, Kentucky, reported something they'd never encountered before: small, silvery, large-eared creatures approaching their farmhouse from the surrounding fields, moving with a strange floating gait. Several family members opened fire on the figures with shotguns and rifles as they climbed onto the roof and appeared repeatedly at doors and windows over several hours, only for the creatures to seemingly shrug off the shots and keep returning.

Terrified, the family eventually fled to the local police station, and the responding officers found the house in genuine disarray, with no sign of the creatures by the time they arrived, but no evidence of a hoax either. The witnesses maintained their account for the rest of their lives, and the "Hopkinsville Goblins" remain one of the most detailed and unusual entity encounters in American folklore, distinct from typical UFO sightings for its siege-like intensity and the sheer number of family witnesses involved.
