The folklore behind the design

Penguins really do love a slide. Many species "toboggan" across ice and snow, flopping onto their bellies and pushing along with their feet and flippers because it's faster and uses less energy than waddling. So a penguin making a snow angel isn't much of a stretch.

Britain has its own famous penguins. At Edinburgh Zoo, the daily penguin parade began in 1951, when a keeper accidentally left a gate open and a group of penguins followed him out on a walk. The zoo is also home to Sir Nils Olav, a king penguin who holds an honorary rank in the Norwegian King's Guard. He was knighted in 2008 and has since been promoted again, which makes him probably the most decorated penguin in the world.
