Beneath the quiet town of Dulce, New Mexico, conspiracy lore holds that something far stranger than farmland exists — a vast, multi-level underground facility, allegedly built for joint human-extraterrestrial research, hidden inside Archuleta Mesa. The claims trace back largely to a single source, a former security officer named Thomas Castello, whose 1979 account described genetic experiments, biological containment levels, and craft stored deep below the surface.

No physical evidence has ever surfaced to confirm any of it, and much of the story has been challenged or outright debunked over the decades. But Dulce Base has become one of American conspiracy folklore's most enduring locations regardless — routinely cited in UFO literature, alien abduction lore, and underground base conspiracy theories more broadly, propped up by the area's genuine, unremarkable history as farmland with nothing officially reported beneath it.
