Coyolxauhqui Goddess of the Moon T-Shirt – Aztec Stone Mosaic Mythology Tee

Coyolxauhqui — "Bells on Her Cheeks" — was the Aztec goddess of the moon, and her story is one of the most dramatic in the entire Mexica pantheon. According to legend, she led her four hundred siblings in an attack on their mother, Coatlicue, at Coatepec ("Serpent Mountain") after learning their mother had become mysteriously pregnant. In response, her newborn brother Huitzilopochtli — god of the sun and war — sprang from the womb fully armed, defeated Coyolxauhqui, and cast her dismembered body down the mountainside. The myth was long read as a symbolic account of the moon's nightly defeat by the rising sun, and her severed, scattered form is echoed in the great circular stone relief of her — the Coyolxauhqui Stone — unearthed at the Templo Mayor in Mexico City in 1978, one of the most significant archaeological finds of the 20th century.

This design channels that same mosaic stone-relief style: weathered grey stonework inlaid with turquoise and gold ornamentation, a feathered headdress, bells at the cheek, and the skull motif tied to her legend, all arranged in the flowing, circular composition associated with the original carving.
